Perla Oyervides is a Mexican
American Teacher who was born and raised at the border. Shortly
after she graduated from college, she was presented with
the opportunity to go out and start her career somewhere else,
but she decided to stay to serve the community that saw her
grow.
She is here to talk about her journey. About what it was like to be raised at the border and to attend to public education in her town. Listen to this episode, to get to know what it really is like to teach at the border. Perla is here to show you, that her community is way more than what you and I see on the news.
"When I close my eyes, I see my family, home, friends. I don't see what they are showing on tv: drugs, weapons, people crossing over. We are much more than just a border that people are trying to cross over" Perla explains.
